Hurricane Sandy – Cape Cod Storm Info & Updates

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2012, to confirm final plans for shelter openings and other operations. Based on the most recent storm forecast, the REPC announces that the following Cape Cod regional shelters will open on Monday morning.

Nauset Regional High School Shelter: 100 Cable Road, Eastham

Status: Opening to the public on Monday, October 29 at 8 a.m.

Animal Shelter: No

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School Shelter: 210 Station Ave, Yarmouth

Status: Opening to the public on Monday, October 29 at 8 a.m.

Animal Shelter: Yes

Sandwich High School Shelter: 365 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, Sandwich

Status: Opening to the public on Monday, October 29 at 8 a.m.

Animal Shelter: Yes

On Monday morning the Barnstable County Incident Management Team (BCIMT) will activate the Multiagency Coordination Center (MACC) at 8 a.m.

Shelter operations are cooperative effort between public authorities and private agencies including the American Red Cross, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and the Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team (DART).

For information about the storm visit the Barnstable County REPC website at www.bcrepc.org. The decision to suggest the evacuation of endangered areas is made at the town level. For specific local information, citizens should contact the emergency management office in their town.

  • All state offices
  • Steamship Authority has suspended its ferry service on the Hyannis-Nantucket route. Service between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard is continuing on a trip-by-trip basis.
  • Cape Cod Regional Transit has suspended all Dial-A-Ride Transportation, Fixed Route, and the Boston Hospital Transportation bus services today. Several morning buses will operate for passengers requiring essential medical service transportation, and transportation to emergency shelters. Check www.capecodrta.org for more information.
  • Cape Air: There will be a systemwide cancellation today and Tuesday for the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. A list of cancellations can be found at www.capeair.com
